Hi! This is my standard sauce for pizza. If you have the time, make your own dough and sauce. Top with fresh ingredients. I’m going to be using this sauce tonight for Meatball & Olive Tapenade Pizza. You will also find this sauce used with our Grilled Pineapple and Ham Pizza.
2 cloves of garlic, finely diced or pressed
1 teaspoon salt
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
½ teaspoon honey
Fresh Grated pepper to taste
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon dried basil
½ tablespoon olive oil
Just a pinch of red pepper flakes, **optional**
In a medium sauce pan, mix the tomato sauce and tomato paste until smooth. Then stir in garlic, salt, honey, pepper, oregano, basil, olive oil and red pepper flakes. Cook over medium heat until the sauce begins to bubble. Reduce the heat and continue to stir for about an additional two or three minutes so the sauce thickens a little. Then remove from heat and set aside.
Note: Do not cover while cooking or when removed from heat. The lid traps the steam and then waters down the sauce. Cover when completely cool.
*This might make more sauce than you need for a single pizza *
