Grilled Cabbage

Boy, do I have a great grilling side dish for you!    This is super easy and delish!   If you are firing up the grill give this a try.   You will be hooked for life!

Grilled Cabbage


*  Small cabbages – the quantity just depends on how many you want to   make.
*  Any sweet dressing of choice, homemade or commercial – I like poppy seed dressing for this.
*  Salt – if desired, to taste
*  Pepper – if desired, to taste

About an hour before you want to grill….

Rinse cabbage and remove the first 2 or so outer leaves.     Cut in half and then press the sides downward to expand the inner portion of the cabbage.

Pour some of the dressing over the top of each cabbage half and smooth it over the sides and bottom.   Then salt and pepper or season as desired.     Next, using a sharp knife, poke a few slits here and there to allow more of the dressing to flow down into the cabbage half.      Set aside (preferably in the refrigerator) to rest and absorb the dressing  for about an hour.

 If you are going to be grilling meat, start your cabbages about 15 minutes before you want to grill the meat.   Start them out on the bottom rack and then move them to the top when you are ready to grill your meat.    It takes a good 30 minutes to get a nice char and cook the cabbage halves to a tender state.    

When done, remove and eat while hot.
